Fic: Moving In (Revision 1)
Title: Moving In
Word Count: 242
Rating: T
Original/Fandom: Original
Pairings (if any): Synara/Nate
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/RPF etc): none
Summary: This occurs prior to my previously posted original fic: Returns.  Synara gets her first apartment.
Notes: This is for Challenge #13b on writerverse whereby we have to trim our first version down to 200 - 250 words.  The original Moving In was 342 words.  It was challenging but I really like a couple of the revisions much better than the original wording!

Synara stood in the middle of her spacious new living room, marveling at how foreign this all seemed.  The angled light streaming through the glass wall reinforced her unnatural elevation.  The lack of color sucked at the warmth of her blood and skin.

She heard a click and turned to see Nate closing the door behind him.

“This is perfect for you.”  He was beaming as he approached.  She deftly stepped behind the leather couch, displaying a sudden interest in the artwork on the wall.  His increasingly bold advances disconcerted her despite the attraction that she recognized meant something would happen, probably sooner rather than later.

Just... not yet, she thought, idly fingering the chain around her neck, feeling the warm weight of the pendant. Her new life was still too uncomfortable. She looked around the large, impersonal space and wondered how she would find her comfort here.

Realizing her silent reflection was making Nate uncomfortable, she spoke up.  “Thank you so much for finding this place.  It’s beautiful.”

“And it’s just for you.  No more sharing your personal space, no more dirt.  Just private, clean, and beautiful.”

She ignored the voice inside retorting that she would miss being surrounded by family and friends and the smell of earth and rain.  She forced a smile.  This was the price she knew she had to pay to leave that life behind.  She could learn to love this.  She would learn to love this.
