Reading Log: Heat Wave
So, yay! I finally read something other than fanfic...  errr, I think. I don't know, is a Richard Castle book fanfiction???

Anyway, to help keep me reading, I'm going to try to track my progress here. I don't really have a goal in mind, but I'll see as I go along.

Title: Heat Wave
Author: Richard Castle
# of Pages: 198
Genre: Mystery/Crime
Series: Nikki Heat #1
Rating: 3/5

Ok, I don't really read a whole lot of straight crime dramas, tending more toward quirky/funny mysteries like Stephanie Plum or Mrs. Pollifax. So I don't know if this is a typical offering for the genre.

It was mildly entertaining but I really thought that the writing was pretty disappointing. I found a lot of it to be repetitive and trite and there wasn't really anything that pulled me to the characters. I guess I expected it to be a lot more witty, and yes, the jokes were in there, but they read really flat to me. Maybe it's all in the delivery. It is hard to beat Nathan Fillion's charm :)

Overall, I guess I'd give it a 3/5. A good beach read, maybe, but I wouldn't buy it.

Up next: The Language Instinct: How the Mind Creates Language by Steven Pinker.  We'll see how I do with nonfiction!

I'm at: bed
I'm enjoying: NCIS

I'm doing a reading log this year, too *g*

And I thought pretty much the same thing about "Heat Wave". It's a light read, kind of funny if you watch the show, but nothing special.

Yeah, I've seen yours. It kinda inspired me. I used to read constantly as a kid and then fell out of the habit :( Since I do a lot better when I have something concrete to show (say, posting in my journal) I thought this would be a good way to get me back into it!

I'm the other way- I read like crazy *g* But nobody I know reads the same stuff I do, so I thought if I started posting my books, I could find somebody else to talk about them with.

I hope it's working for you. A lot of what you post I haven't read, but I keeping a list of the books that seem interesting in hopes that I get around to read them in the future!
