The End of the World

He’d been well-prepared for this: tested, drilled, and trained till his tasks were second nature. He’d efficiently prepared the infirmary to either receive wounded or bug out, depending on their orders. Now they were waiting for word to come from Level 28.

He watched Dr. Fraiser, lit by strobing red light, making careful notes in a patient file. She looked up.

“What’s wrong?” she asked in her warm, sympathetic voice.

He stammered, “It’s... out there... How can you stay so calm?”

She smiled and shook her head. “It’s only the end of the world, Lieutenant. You get used to it.”

Ha, I love that Janet's so calm. But really, after so many end of the worlds I suppose one is no longer impressed! give this guy a few more apocalypses and he'll get the hang of it, lol :)

Lol! You must have been reading while I was still trying to get the formatting right. This crossposting from dreamwidth is kinda driving me batty.

This piece is a bit tongue in cheek, but yeah, once you been through several, you sit there, do your job, catch up on work...

Lol, I did notice the formatting was a bit off but I was reading it in my phone, so I assumed that was why. How do you like dreamwidth vs lj?

Hmmm... It's very similar to lj. But I'm having a bit more of a technological learning curve over at dreamwidth than I had expected. Of course, I haven't read the Dreamwidth for LiveJournal users document yet, so...

Biggest positive I've experienced so far is the communication from the organizers / programmers / what have you on updates and stuff. They're really hands on, posting updates on status in real-time, letting you know what they're doing before hand so you know where the problems might be. Especially given the new friends page that lj is apparently going to insist we all use, I find this type of interactivity refreshing.

Biggest problem I've had is with the cut button. I like to center my title right before the text of the story. I do that, then try to put everything behind the cut, and either a) it only puts the title behind the cut or b) it centers the whole damn thing. I must be doing something wonky, because I see lots of other people using cuts with, apparently, no problem.
